Francis POON biography | artworks | events

Hong Kong Born Singaporean, Francis Poon Ping Him is a budding artist who loves the many genres in art. The few mediums in his current art practice involves ceramics, oil paintings, acrylic paintings, and mixed media. He graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) (ceramics major) in 2007 and was awarded the Georgette Chen Arts Scholarship for the years 2005 to 2007. He was also awarded The Indonesia arts and culture scholarship where he received 3 months of foundation training in traditional Balinese painting, music, dance and drama. He has then performed a group dance in a temple ceremony, Art Center Denpasar Bali and Foreign affairs Department in Jakarta. Upon returning to Singapore he performed a solo dance piece in NAFA and has also adapted it as a part of the performance piece in “Bond Agent Bond” a group exhibition cum art residency in 1aSpace, Hong Kong in 2008. He has actively collaborated with other artists, musicians and theater performers and theatre organization Act3 International, to project concepts of his art since 2006. Taking on art as a profession in 2009, Poon has had commisioned art works in a restaurant along Joo Chiat Rd, bistro in Raffles City and a bakery in Orchard ION. He has actively exhibited in group exhibitions in Pan Pacific Hotel, “Intensity” in Tembusu Art Gallery which he also curated, “Bond Agent Bond” in Hong Kong1aSpace and “Chrono.Liquid” in Forth Gallery. Since 2007, he runs an art studio/ceramic workshop in Tampines Industrial Park with 3 fellow artists where he explores in the various practices. He facilitates visual art workshops at Maris Stella High School, Xingnan Primary School and CreativeO childcare. He is also the Vice-Chair of the society of Singapore Contemporary Young Artists(SCYA).
