Koon received his B.A. and MFA. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After his graduation, Koon taught Chinese painting and calligraphy at the Department of Fine Arts and the United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Besides, he also worked as a chief designer at a Hong Kong listed company. Unlike most of his contemporaries who are interested in western art, Koon is keen on exploring the new possibilities of Chinese form of expression. In 2003, the Hong Kong Art Development Council awarded the Rising Artist Award to Koon as recognition of his accomplishments in art. He held solo exhibitions and took part in various local and national exhibitions including the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial and the National Exhibition of Arts. In 2004, his work representing Hong Kong was shown in the 10th National Exhibition of Arts and received the Merit award. Also his works were selected for the 2nd Beijing International Art Biennial in 2005 and Beyond the Surface: Chinese Abstract Art, held by the Macao Museum of Art, in 2008, and published as a Christmas card for the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2006. His name was included in the volume of Chinese painting and calligraphy, the Yearbook of Chinese Cultural Heritage in 2007. His works are collected by museums and private collections in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
