Alma Allen was born in 1970 in Utah. He currently lives and works in Joshua Tree, California, after living in Venice, California, where he and his partner Nancy Pearce ran "Pearce", a store showcasing Allen's work. For Allen, who works in the desert of Joshua Tree, the nature is the core of the artistic practice. He collects raw materials such as wood and stone, and creates work out of them. Its organic forms sometimes seem natural. He listens to the voice of the materials, and cherishes instinct and sense, all of which seem to remain in the finished work. Each of his piece, such as wood tables, stool, bowls, stone sculptures carries different characteristic, warmth and the energy of something alive, and is loved by many collectors. He has had many shows in New York and California, as well as in Japan. Last year, he held two person shows with Adam Silverman at Playmountain in Tokyo and dieci in Osaka. His work has been featured in many publications including Architectural Digest and Wallpaper.
