As an artist who works not only in traditional photography but also more recently in video and installation artwork, Wang Ningde attempts to decipher and answer the uninsurable, peeling back the layers of memory and the social facade. This is he process of remembering who is questioned, suggested and imagined.
With his photographs, the artist has been able to capture the tension between an ever-changing contemporary China and the always-present memory of the Cultural Revolution.
As Proust Madeleine, Wang Ningde's photographs remind us that the memory can not be a passive participant in life, but rather an engine aware in the course of our lives.
