5 Stars Arising
Artist(s): CHEN Ziwei, Khairullah RAHIM, LEE Mei Ling, ONG Hui Har, Joey SOH
Date: 3 Aug - 17 Aug 2012

Presenting 5 arising Singapore artists who have very creditable artworks well supported by their modest pool of supporters. These artists consciously or sub-consciously take reference from Singapore’s history and culture. Showing contemporary artworks relating to Singapore from portrait, architectural scene, the flora and fauna of Singapore with orchid as the national flower flourishing, lush three-dimensional botanic for immersing and domestic animal capturing the humorous lifestyle in the neighborhood.

We like to uncover these gems to audience who like to know more about Singapore art relating history and culture. “Five stars arising” is a national day song Singaporeans connect with so we would like to invite audience to connect with these 5 arising stars. It is envisaged that this exhibition will feature approximately 15 contemporary works by 5 Singaporean artists inspired by Singapore’s history and culture.

Aim to present that amidst the strong focus on economics development for Singapore since independent in 1965, history and culture consciously or sub-consciously have strong influences on Singapore artists. Which are alike as with other artists from our neighboring countries in Southeast Asia. We would like to capture the heart of our audience through this Singapore story in a contemporary way. The purpose of having the show in August is to further enable the audience to feel the national day vibes around the nation in this celebrative birthday month of Singapore.
