Re-modelling the World – again again again by Bjørn Nørgaard
Date: 24 Oct - 23 Nov 2014

The exhibition BJØRN NØRGAARD: Re-modelling the Worldon show in late fall 2014 at the CAFA Art Museum, Beijing offers an extensive retrospective view of works by the Danish artist Bjørn Nørgaard.

Bjørn Nørgaard is a pre-eminent figure among the artists active in Denmark today and is one of the most important Danish artists to have emerged out of the 1960s art scene. The exhibition aims to provide a comprehensive and coherent image of Bjørn Nørgaard’s art from the 1960s to the present day. It spans from his early sculptures, installations, graphic works, performances and film through the major amount of works in public spaces, not least the large commission of tapestries for the Danish queen, to the reflective and humorous works of the recent years, a considerable part of which has been carried out and produced in China.

Re-modelling the World – again again againare Bjørn Nørgaard’s own words, used as the title of a number of his most recent actions and installations where he breaks up the familiar world like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, rebuilding it and piecing it together in new ways. Appropriated for the exhibition, the title both points to Bjørn Nørgaard´s concrete re-structuring of material aesthetics and to the democratic dialogue and involvement as a prominent aspect of his artistic practice.

A richly illustrated exhibition catalogue in English and Chinese supplements the exhibition by offering a nuanced, meditated and critical image of Bjørn Nørgaard’s complex, many-sided work and its development over the course of five decades.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between CAFA Art Museum and Statens Museum for Kunst, SMK (National Gallery of Denmark) in connection with the Danish-Chinese cultural exchange in 2014. Works are on loan from SMK and other art museums and public institutions as well as private owners.
