What comes to mind when you think of the “Post-80s”? Those in their mid-twenties? Generation Y? Creative? Ambitious? Energetic? Radicals? Degree holders? Internet buffs? The perpetual pursuit of different things? Jack of all trades? Prone to bad manners? Inclined to spend extravagantly? Uncompromising? See the world in their own ways? Eager to pursue freedom? Courageous enough to voice their needs? A positive ge...neration...or the other way around? All in all, the “Post-80s” is so much more than meets the eye!
“80: AVA Graduation Exhibition 2011” features 80 pieces of artwork by the “last” throng of the Post-80s, those who have just appeared on the art scene and are willing to come forward with their views about the “80”s.
The exhibition is located at the historical Kai Tak Campus of the Hong Kong Baptist University, winner of the 2010 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation. “80: AVA Graduation Exhibition 2011” aims to display the artistic talents of our 80 graduates who are determined to break down the boundaries between different media and genres, and merge “fine arts” and “design”. Either by independently exploring a single media or crossing many of them into one, each artist on display rejects old thoughts and forms in favour of diverse artistic possibilities via painting, sculpture, installation, photography, new media, mixed media, comics, ink art, ceramics, glass art, and 2-D or 3-D design. Viewers will undoubtedly be enlightened on perspectives of the “Post-80s”, and experience a multi-pronged approach in art creation.
For us, the “80”s are about “visual arts” of one kind or another. There is never an ending; instead, it is an open question in which differences of opinions are possible. The exploration of the “80”s is not up to you, but us – the “Post-80s” generation. Don’t take our word for it, go and see the exhibition.
