Art & Architecture in Basel, Switzerland

Basel is Switzerland’s second-largest city and its wealthy patrician families have nurtured a tradition of scholarship and art since the Renaissance.

Only in the Swiss city, Basel, is there such a concentration of cultural activities and institutions - with 40 museums within a 40 sq. km. radius. Home to buildings by renowned architects, such as the Beyeler Foundation by Renzo Piano and the Vitra complex in nearby Weil Am Rhein, Basel has a reputation as a leading cultural center in Europe for the past 30 years.

Located at the borders of Switzerland, France, and Germany, Basel’s first-class location and transportation infrastructure makes it accessible and easily reachable from everywhere. Basel is the terminus for Rhine River cruises from Holland and Germany, and it is a major Swiss railroad gateway for trains from Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, and other European cities.
