Statement 1 - New Photography from Germany
by Goethe-Gallery, Goethe-Institut Hongkong
Location: Goethe-Gallery
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 10 Oct - 1 Nov 2014

Between October 2014 and December 2015, Goethe-Institut Hongkong presents an exhibition series that introduces a new generation of German artists to Hong Kong. In each exhibition, works by four to five established and promising young German artists will be presented at the Goethe-Gallery. Among them, one or two featured artists will be invited to Hong Kong to give talks and to meet the local general public. The exhibitions will take a similar title with a different focus each time, and all of them will be held in partnership with a different local organisation.

The first exhibition is:

“Statement 1: New Photography from Germany”

Presented by Goethe-Institut Hongkong and in collaboration with The Ministry of Arts and C/O Berlin, “Statement 1: New Photography from Germany” will be held from October 10 to November 1, 2014 at the Goethe-Gallery.

Presented by Goethe-Institut Hongkong and in collaboration with The Ministry of Art and C/O Berlin, “Statement 1: New Photography from Germany” will be held from October 10 to November 1, 2014 at the Goethe-Gallery. The artists are Michael Weseley (b. 1963), known for his long-term exposure images; Thorsten Brinkmann (b. 1971) who rebuilds – with found objects – skurril images resembling still lifes and classical portraits; Christiane Feser (b. 1977) and Stefan Heyne (b. 1965), representing two positions of new abstraction (NEUEN ABSTRAKTION) movement in the German photography scene; and Andreas Mühe (b. 1979), who reenacts historical brisant settings based on collective images of the German past. An artist talk by Stefan Heyne and Leung Chi Wo will be held on October 12, 2014 (Sunday) from 11:00am to 12:30 noon at Goethe-Institut Hongkong’s Library.

The exhibition is one of the collateral events of the
