Alcaston Gallery is honoured to present a survey exhibition of paintings by Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori to celebrate the beginning of our 2015 exhibition calendar!
Born around 1924, Sally Gabori began painting in her late seventies in 2005. Her interpretation of her Bentinck island home, infused with the full spectrum of colour, took the contemporary art world by surprise.
Colour Country - A Survey 2005-2013 illustrates the development of Sally Gabori's paintings from the geometric colour block, which was a dominant feature of her early works, to subtle variations of colour and texture which continually evolved in her later works.
Sally Gabori has made her mark Australia-wide and internationally, with her paintings exhibited in major exhibitions in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, France, USA, Korea, the Netherlands and Italy. Sally’s paintings feature in important collections around the world including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Queensland Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Artbank, Rockhampton Art Gallery, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, New Zealand, the Musée du Quai Branly, France and the Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal Art, the Netherlands.
