Edroger C. Rosili, (b. 1985, Sarawak, UiTM graduate with a B.A (Hons) in Fine Arts) makes his solo entrance at TAKSU KL by tackling an innocent yet thought provoking question: W.O.Y.M?
W.O.Y.M is the acronym for “what is in your mind” and for those who is all too familiar with the Facebook interface, this is the question one would see in your ‘status update’ box to encourage a person to type in their thoughts of the day or week on their wall for people in their network to read and send feedbacks to. Though it sounds simple enough, Edroger observes the complexity and vulnerability of this platform, rendering people to have the freedom of choice whether to stir in some awe, share personal issues, inspire or disgust the audience. Critical literacy is practiced on a daily basis and people are under constant pressure of being in a society of the spectacle, so much so that people are known to be driven into panic attacks and symptoms for bipolar disorder.
Edroger finds this global phenomenon leaves much to be discussed and the act of answering, “what is in your mind” in the Facebook’s ‘status update’ box evokes the same electricity in him as to staring at a blank piece of canvas. “What should I paint?” – this is how the artist implements his ideas in this artwork collective.
