Not a drawing, not a painting, art...new media art, new found media art, mixed media art... The magic square is a unique symbol used in cultures around the world to signify harmonious principles of unity and power. When summed up – horizontally, vertically or diagonally – the sum is always the same. Similarly signifying unity, any number multiplied by NINE always totals up to NINE. NINE is the whole number of absolute completion and attainment. It is the transition number before the end and a renewal to an infinite journey.
This exhibition explores and unifies the works of NINE contemporary women artists who create art through the diverse language of new found media – from mustard seeds and sequins to lenticular prints and Flash animation. Through a dynamic exploration of the use of existing materials, these artists survey an approach to looking at diversity in art. Embedding experiences and transmitting messages through layers beyond the visual, art with new found media has transcended traditional art forms to create a genre of its own.
NINE artists: Anjum Singh, Chila Kumari Burman, Debasree Das, Farida Batool, Jenny Bhatt, Malavika Mandal Andrew, Niyeti Chadha, Prajakta Potnis, Smriti Dixit
