Sujarwo is fast becoming a name to be reckoned with in the the world of Indonesian fine arts.He is a self taught artist and has been painting since his early years. His creative process is driven by his inner energy in studying daily life. Almost all of the actual issues he sees, especially those related to city life, are transported to his paintings, and therefore he is continuously creating. His unique style demonstrates a velocity of lines while minimalising colours, and thus rewarding us the viewer with an intriguing merge of expressionalism and impressionism.
In his first solo exhibition Sujarwo took as his theme "The Shopping Mall and Fashion" He does not merely see it from a distance, but close up, revealing different aspects of the "Mall experience". On his second solo exhibition with the theme "SHOPASSION" he emphasizes to buying passion.
We can feel the hysteria in his works, the anguished looks on the shoppers faces as they surge to get the best bargains as seen in "Discount 50%". This painting is nicely juxtaposed against "No problem with the Price",the positioning of the woman's hands seeming to say "it's only money, what do I care?"
