Sally’s work speaks about nature and its struggle to survive in a continually changing environment. She has been collecting nature specimens, on her explorations around the city, along the water’s edge and in the country, for many years. These specimens are scanned and catalogued to form a digital image bank from which she draws to create her silkscreen prints.
The effect of memory layering, change, fragmentation and emotions, triggered by sight, sound or scent are a constant dynamic in her work. Sally works intuitively, composing her prints directly on Japanese Washi paper by printing multiple images individually using layering, hand stitching and a limited translucent color palette. Her prints draw on the essence of her collected specimens to evoke memories of a fragile calmness that exists within nature’s powerful environment.
