Little Red Riding Hood
by Indexg
Location: Indexg
Artist(s): Ximena BERECOCHEA
Date: 29 Jul - 30 Aug 2009

Little Red Riding Hood, a photographic series by Ximena Berecochea, is the result of spontaneous and instant associations in the process of the reading the Grimm Brothers' tale. The series, produced in 2003, contains 25 photographic images with text. Each photograph consists of a text and an image, framed elegantly in diptych. Each framed work measures 12" X 6".

A well known tale told in 25 images. In Berecochea's art statement she said, "The idea is to present the manner in which the mental images, hereby postulated as photographic frames, arise through causal connections and do not always relate to literal form or apparent relation to the text. And so, I refer to the imaginative process, to the way in which we personally associate, and perchance arbitrarily, shapes, objects or places, with ideas."

Ximena Berecochea (-1968 Mexico) is currently doing her PhD in Mexican Literature at the University of Toronto. She studied photography in Mexico City and her work has been widely published and featured in exhibitions in Mexico, Spain, United States, Canada, Denmark, Japan and Indonesia.

She was selected as a participant for Artistic Residences in the Exchange Program Mexico-Canada from 2001 to 2003. Berecochea's work is collected in the Walter Phillips Collection of the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada) and of the Del Carmen Museum Collection (Mexico).
