Location: Kodama Gallery Kyoto
Artist(s): Keisuke SUGIMOTO
Date: 16 Feb - 23 Mar 2013

Since the first exhibition 'Kodama Gallery Project Vol 27 - Rules' in 2011, Sugimoto has held the group exhibitions in Kyoto and Tokyo, and two solo exhibitions here in 2012. Sugimoto graduated from Kobe university in 2008, and mostly shows paintings, solid works, and performance, which consist of a space synthetically.
The original theme of his work is based on building a conceptual definition of human being. A word 'human being' contains various meanings in biological, sociological, or ontological way. Without any thought of the world, his interest is heading for the 'human being' itself only.
In his drawing and plain works, motif by drawing circle or a stick or composition of side with minute expression creates repetition of 'logic' or 'formula' he pursues. Also, he uses leather for some of his works which can show traces of life symbolically. His solid work or performance creates a comprehensive space including a plain work, and has a role to make a special situation. Images on his works look like a dense piece of writing or figures, but audience can feel essence of man which Sugimoto wants to discover, beyond his performance and images.
