Shi Wei is known for his ambiguous and vague oil paintings, in particular the Skinny Beautiful
Women Series. In these oil paintings, women are depicted skinny and scrawny in erotic poses,
which place the meaning of beauty under scrutiny. Are these women beautiful and happy? Or are
they suffering for the price of vanity? These are just some of the varied social questions the artist
posits.
