Tan Jack Ying is a young Singapore art-practitioner who is pursuing her Bachelor Degree in Fine Art at LASALLE College of the Arts in August 2009. Although trained in painting, she has a strong sensitivity to materials, and materials such as fabric and paper are often seen in her work. Her experience of shifting from an environment to another had resulted in her interests to explore the notion of change, which subsequently cause her to investigate on temporality, construction and displacement.
Apart from participating in the Curating Lab: 100 Remix workshop organised by the National University of Singapore museum in partnership with the National Art Council of Singapore in 2009, she also participate in other aspect of art such as volunteering work for Fetter Field – performance art event organised by The Artist Village, Singapore in 2007, and written for the Praxis Press published by the LaSalle College of Art in 2008 and 2009.
Jack Ying had participate in numerous exhibitions and received awards such as the UOB painting of the year (highly commended) and Georgette Chen art scholarship in 2008, the Winston Oh Travel Award ( Travelogue practice) and NAC Art bursary (Local) in 2009.
