The ethereal images of Mooney’s works are created by smoke from a strong blow-torch exposed onto aluminum panels. The repeated process of exposure to smoke and then glazing result in images that are a concrete residue of physical substance yet at the same time, are a visual metaphor of ambiguity and uncertainty.
Mooney has had numerous solo shows in Ireland and the USA including Brooklyn Federal Court House, New York in 2001 and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin in 1993. He has received a number of commissions both in New York and Europe including Glass Wall #3, a large scale glass installation at the Isles Residence, New York.
