Exodus of Bandung

During the last 10 years, the development of Bandung contemporary art showing the direction of peak shift. It involves a shift in direction as well as artistic thematic concepts from each artist. If withdrawn from the past and present, these symptoms sometimes reflect the continuity and discontinuity with the development of Bandung Modern Arts in the period of 1980' even up to 1990' years.

Indonesian contemporary art since its growth in 1975 through the Indonesian New Art Movement (GSRB) is known as a group of young artists, where several members of the artists represented and academic education set in the two axis of Indonesian art, those are: ITB (Bandung Institute of  Technology) and ISI Yogyakarta (Indonesian Institute of the Arts). These young artists trying break radically, practice of painting dominant tendency in Indonesian modern art. One of the jargon concept promoted by GSRB is the principle of aesthetic pluralism. As an art movement manifesto, GSRB promote art issues are critical and political, by presenting works by new media such as installation, ready-mades, found objects, and collaborative work.

Bandung as a capital center of art development in the Indonesian beside Jakarta and Yogyakarta in addition with its artist has its own unique, especially culturally. The most glaring cultural character is the nature of his cosmopolitan who received disclosure from the influence of culture and art information from the outside. As far as refreshing and reaching a critical thing, influence of outside effects generally has no power of resistance or strong refusal from Bandung artists.

As a preliminary indication perhaps the nature of its cosmopolitan that reflects the specific characteristics on thematic and artistic aspects of each work of artists of Bandung, which may be valid today.

Exhibition Exodus of Bandung trying to display the works of artists of Bandung with his cosmopolitan character and inclusive. Artists who be elected for participating the exhibition represent the representation of his generation and the spirit of the time. These issues could be a variety of themes ranging from issues of identity, social, environmental, urban life, even a popular theme.
