This is the end…
by Yeo Workshop
Location: Yeo Workshop
Artist(s): Yu-Chen WANG
Date: 7 Nov 2015 - 9 Jan 2016

Yeo Workshop is pleased to present an exhibition by Yu-Chen Wang. The gallery space will host a new body of work as well as the piece titled “This is the end…”. The piece was formerly on display in the Taipei Biennial 2014, The Great Acceleration: Art in the Anthropocene, curated by Nicolas Bourriaud, at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan. Due to the impact of the work, which has the potential of conquering the space, we invite you to question the probability of the end of the world. The mise-en-scène of the curated space will introduce its viewers to a revised relationship between the anthropomorphic and the natural.

Wang creates complex and intricate drawings with pencil and watercolour, but also extends her practice to include artist's books, films, performances, collages and installations. She is interested in otherworldly images, frequently inspired by architecture and science fiction. The amorphous shapes and wispy lines in her drawings evoke alternative places and surreal landscapes, but when looking closely one can sometimes make out subtle references to real-life machines, sea creatures, flowers and ships. Wang’s films, performances and books expand on this fictional world where her characters are whisked away to the parallel universe captured in her meticulous drawings.

Yu-Chen Wang is a renowned artist, possessing an impressive record of international exhibitions, such as the Hayward Gallery, London; Cornerhouse, Manchester; Galerie L'Oeil de Poisson, Quebec City; FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, France; Camden Arts Centre, London; Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), London; Darklight Film Festival, Dublin; and Videonale, Berlin. She is currently in the process of creating a new body of commissioned work for Manchester Art Gallery's forthcoming exhibition "The Imitation Game", and solo show "Nostalgia for the Future" at Taipei Fine Arts Meuseum (2016).

The reasearch of the work included in our exhibition titled "This is the end..." was kindly supported by the National Culture and Arts Foundation, UK.
