Neiland in Singapore
by Galerie Belvedere
Location: Galerie Belvedere
Artist(s): Brendan NEILAND
Date: 1 Jul - 31 Aug 2015

Galerie Belvedere presents “Neiland in Singapore”.  The exhibition was opened by Paul Finch OBE.

Brendan Neiland (b. 1941) is one of Britain’s foremost contemporary painters and printmakers known for his distinct style of using architecture to create timeless works. Neiland explores the subtle relationship between architectural facades, the surrounding environment and the viewer’s perception in his new series of paintings based on Singapore cityscape scenes. The resulting imagery is figurative - relating to the city - and abstract with their formal structures, reflections of light, and modulated, saturated colour. The paintings reflect areas in Singapore such as Marina Bay, the Financial District, Orchard Road, the Botanical Gardens and Gardens by the Bay.

This is the first time that Neiland is having an exhibition solely featuring Singapore where the “light fantastic” and shimmering reflections are captured in his works. Neiland’s genius weaves images, architectural forms, dynamic colour, and “suffuses them with light that dazzles”.

This exhibition also features a collection of 12 silk screen limited edition prints which are also exclusively on Singapore. They are published by Galerie Belvedere and printed in London by the same printer  who makes prints of works by Damien Hirst and Peter Blake.

Neiland’s paintings are found in major collections and museums worldwide including The Royal Academy, The Tate Gallery, The Victoria and Albert Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Neiland is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and was Keeper of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. In 1998 he was commissioned by the Royal Mail to design a postage stamp. Several leading corporations and establishments including Rolls Royce, BMW and British Rail have commissioned his works for their corporate collections. His works are also collected by royalty and celebrities such as Sir Paul Smith. Corporate collectors of his paintings include CapitaLand, Wing Tai (HK), Lloyds Bank, Jardines, 45 Park Lane (Dorchester Collection), National Bank of Dubai and the European Parliament (Brussels).
