GALLERY HYUNDAI is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Bernar Venet, a prominent sculptor and conceptual artist of international status.
Born in 1941 in the south of France, Venet began his artistic practice in early 1960s with a group of artists of Nouveau Réalisme. In 1966 Venet moved to New York and has since engaged in a wide-ranging artistic endeavor that includes sculpture, painting, poetry, film, and performance.
The current exhibition consists of Bernar Venet’s sculptural reliefs, drawings, and paintings through which one can glimpse into his distinctive “self-referential” vocabulary that manifests his entire oeuvre. The exhibition will showcase for the first time to the Korean audience his GRIB series, a group of wall reliefs made of torch-cut steel, and also offer a world premiere of his drawings based on the particular series. As an extension to his previous Indeterminate Lines series, GRIB is inspired by scribbled lines and imbued with liberated energy that attests to the ongoing, indefatigable passion that governs his artistic practice of more than 50 years.
Bernar Venet’s work is included in the collections of more than 60 institutions, including MoMA (New York), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), Centre Pompidou (Paris), and MOCA (Los Angeles). His permanent installations could be found in major cities of Paris, Berlin, Cologne, Geneva, Vancouver, Tokyo, and etc. This upcoming July, Venet Foundation will open its door in Le Muy, France.
