Messenger - The Secret Light by Hyejeong Keum
by Gallery em
Location: Gallery EM
Date: 12 Apr - 26 Apr 2014

Photographer Hyejeong Keum will hold the first solo exhibition entitled 'Messenger - The Secret Light' at Gallery EM. The exhibition features 19 new works based on philosophical thoughts in lyrical images. Her works basically consist of faint panorama and distant or center view based in achromatic color, and there is an object or landscape connecting between distant and close-range views. Each photo has three layers and produces a depth of view in terms of subject.

'Light of flower' is a beautiful work in three layers the artist tried to express. There are a group of flowers shining like a ray of light in the center between forest with images of bottom of tress. 'Silent optimism' depicts calm ocean scenery out of the window. There is a black sofa heavily placed, and the ocean and blurred sun light can be seen between curtains. 'Freedom out of the broken window' reveals vague images of trees based on a close-range view of inside of an old car.
The new exhibition also introduces color photos with a view of three different distances. Small size of lights from the end of tunnel in 'A door of heaven' and bright light passing through people on the street in 'A core of darkness' show her journey based on refined and restrained consciousness of art.

Her photographic emotion causes static tension like aesthetic in Neoclassicism. Passion for light reaches to the world of warm light and it makes people feel poetic sympathy.
