Hyun-sook SONG biography | artworks | events

Born 1952 in Damyang Cholla-Namdo, Korea.
Childhood spent in the mountain village of Mu-worli in the province of Cholla/Damyang.
1969 Graduated from high school in the district town of Gwangju.
1972 Travelled to West Germany, where she spent four years working in a hospital.
1976-1981 Studied at the College of Fine Art in Hamburg (Hochschule für Bildende
Künste Hamburg).
1982 First solo Exhibition Hamburger Kunsthalle and Producersgallery Hamburg.
Was awarded a Hamburg stipend.
1983 Received a Support Award for Painting from the Federal German Federation of Industry.
1984-1985 Studied Korean Art History at the Chonnam University in Korea.
1991 Was awarded a work stipend for Painting from the Kunstfonds e.V. Bonn.
1992-1994 Work on the film, “My Heart is a Bottle” in Korea and Germany.

1995 Received a special award from the Hessian Film Prize jury for the autobiographical
film document, “My Heart is a Bottle, The Smallest Story”.
1995-1997 Work on the film “Metamorphosis, The Dragon Splendoured Monster: Childhood”
in Korea and Germany.

1996 Was awarded the Edwin Scharf Award for Painting of the Free and Hanseatic
City of Hamburg.
1997 Selections Winter´97, for the Drawing Center New York (55 Drawings).
1998 Member of the Free Academy of the Arts Hamburg.
1999 Beginning the work on the film “Wozuhaus” (“Where is my house”) in Korea
and Germany.
Lecture on the CCAC Institute, 11-15, January, Institute California College of Arts
and Crafts, San Francisco.
