PARK Jihyun was born in Seoul, in 1970. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts, Hong-ik University and its graduate school, majoring in sculpture. He flew to the United States in 1998, studied at the graduate school of the School of Visual Arts and, after graduation, participated in the Skowhegan residency program. Park’s first solo exhibition, “Wordplay", was held at Duk-won Gallery in 1997. In 2006, at his solo exhibition held in Art in General in New York, the artist installed a sculpture named “Uptown, Uptown”. The sculpture was made as the figuration of Manhattan by using incense sticks. In 2007, Park received the Artists' Fellowship award and grant of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). This year, he presented “Incense Series” of works on paper, conveying a sense of “Weightlessness” at Gana Art New York. Currently, Park is a participant of a residency program organized by the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York.
