RYU Hoyeul was born in Seoul, in 1971. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts, Chung-Ang University, majoring in sculpture. He then studied fine art at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig(HBK) in Germany. In 2004, he received a Hanover Museum of Art Award, and, over the next two years, the museum supported his artistic activities. Under the theme of “reality and unreality”, Ryu is working on various aspects, using photographs, video and sculpture. However, the focus of his works is on true de-conceptualization, rather than “reality and unreality” per se. He, so far, has held 9 solo exhibitions and participated in a lot of group exhibitions. He is currently teaching at the Department of Sculpture of Chung-Ang University
