KIM Jandi graduated from Ewha Women’s University and its graduate school (Seoul, 2006), majoring in painting and received her MA in fine art from the Chelsea College of Arts and Design in London (2007). Kim has held 4 solo exhibitions in Seoul and London including the first one, “Visit to Hanam (Art Space Hue, Seoul 2005)” and the latest one, “Sense of Place (Gallery King, Seoul 2010).” Most of her early works are installations on her personal memories and experiences related to particular places in Seoul. However, since 2006, during when Kim studied in London, she has concentrated on more general places such as house and its fundamental nature. The retouched photo copy series, “Uncanny House” illustrate an irony of the fantasy about house. Each house is modest yet fascinating, but it is impossible to enter the house because of the parasitic plants on the wall or intentionally removed entrances. These houses symbolize the intrinsic impossibility of nostalgia and the homing instinct toward mother’s womb.
