In celebration of SongEun ArtSpace’s 5th year establishment in Chungdam-Dong, we present a special exhibition titled Summer Love: SongEun ArtCube Collective Exhibition featuring 32 selected artists from 2011 to 2015 to showcase either new or unreleased works of this group of promising Korean contemporary artists.

The overall concept of this exhibition begins with the core objective of the SongEun Art and Cultural Foundation, established in 1989 by late honorary Chairman of Samtan Co. Ltd, to earnestly promote and support young Korean contemporary artists. In keeping to this commitment, the SongEun ArtAward was developed in 2001 and SongEun Gallery was set up within the Samtan building in 2002. Following with the expansion into a free standing building in Chungdam-Dong in November 2010, SongEun ArtSpace led way to becoming one of the top establishments as a non-commercial entity for contemporary art in Korea. It was in this same year that both SongEun ArtAward and SongEun Gallery were greatly modified including the new name to SongEun ArtCube.

For both SongEun ArtCube and SongEun ArtAward, there is an open call for Korean artists each year in which approximately 500 applicants submit their application and portfolio which then undergoes a stringent, fair and transparent jury process. For the SongEun ArtCube only 8 artists are selected, for most of whom this would be their first solo exhibition. In these past years, we have been delighted to watch these talented artists grow and overcome new challenges and partake in meaningful opportunities. Hence, for SongEun ArtSpace’s 5th anniversary, we felt it the right moment to offer this space which has become venue to internationally renowned and domestically recognized mid-career artists as well as the “ones to watch” from the SongEun ArtAward. The title Summer Love conjures images and impressionable memories of a passionate, beautiful and unforgettable experience which is what we hope our viewers will take away from this exhibition when discovering or rediscovering these young artists. The exhibition is divided into two parts, we sincerely hope you will leave with a lasting impression.
