Free Will
by MOA gallery
Location: MOA Gallery
Artist(s): Kyung Ryul YANG
Date: 23 Aug - 25 Sep 2013

Kyung Ryul Yang's new exhibition 'Free Will' shows one side of one's value system, such as conflict derived from unequal terms or instability of social structure in the changing contemporary society, in a visual image. His work is not about a problem of existence apart from reproduction, but unsafety for defining and seeing its condition, and sometimes it looks like affecting a mysterious power making something new in free will.

His work starts from a text, 'Reflection', and combines materials with images, and sense with meaning, as being compressed to reflection, flow, wave and free will. Various images consisting a scene are the result of dense choices and decisions. Cases create the layer of meaning and make appreciate meaningful. Image cannot be understandable or impossible to explain thoroughly. And it is not easy to explain a process, act and meaning of selecting images. Explaining how the audience can see and recompose the images is also difficult as well. Strange motion of visuality makes people watch the picture compulsively. Choice by the artist is related to various movements, such as interpretation, creation, composition and expression.

Simple but disparate image reflects the world but we cannot get into the illusion of it. The exhibition tells us that the illusion is not in the art work but in the reality.
