To commemorate 100th anniversary of Whan Ki Kim's birth, Gwangju Art Museum presents the solo exhibition. Whan Ki Kim is a pioneer of Korean abstract art and led internationalized of Korean modern and contemporary art. Based on Korean lyricism, he established own world of art and mostly worked in Tokyo, Paris and New York. Also, he left the highest number of art works, which received the great attentions from everybody.
When working in Japan and Seoul, he often visited his home town, and painted a beautiful scenery. Despite of it, there were not many chance to encounter with his art works there so that this exhibition shows his art works on a large scale.
Gwangju Art Museum exhibits many oil paintings on paper, blue moon series, early drawings, and keepsakes from him as well as pointillism works, his representative realm. The exhibition is supported by Shin-an City, Gallery HYUNDAI, Whan Ki Museum, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Samsung Museum of Art Leeum, MBC, and private collectors.
