Swimming in Media Space
by Doosan Gallery
Location: Doosan Gallery
Artist(s): Eunsu KANG
Date: 11 Jun - 2 Jul 2011

Doosan Gallery Seoul presents the solo exhibition of Eunsu Kang entitled 'Swimming in Media Space' from June 11 through July 2.

Kang creates an experience of walking or "swimming" in a water-like space using interactive media technologies responding to human movements. The exhibition space is transformed into an atypical and flexible space composed of lights and sounds. This interactive space constantly changes in reaction to the body of the participant so as to function as a mediator to provoke a novel perceptive experience.

As a result, the exhibition space is no longer only a place where one appreciates an art work as a viewer but a facility where one becomes a part of the art work itself as a participant. The visitors are invited to intuit a new possibility for mutual resonance through art.

This exhibition is accompanied with three interactive dance performances in which the body of the dancer who has been continuously collaborating with Kang and the exhibition space assimilate into each other.

Eunsu Kang was born in 1974 in Seoul, Korea. She received her BRA and M.F.A. from Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, M.A in Media Arts and Technology from the University of California Santa Barbara, and Ph.D. in Digital Arts and Experimental Media from the University of Washington.
