by Yuka Tsuruno
Location: Yuka Tsuruno Gallery
Date: 21 Nov - 19 Dec 2015

Yuka Tsuruno Gallery presents 'RAMA LAMA DING DONG' by the photographer Yusuke Yamatani, from Saturday, November 21st to Saturday, December 19th 2015.

Yusuke Yamatani has earned his recognition for the self-published monograph, titled ‘Tsugi no your e,’ (On to the next night in English) (2013) and also taking parts in exhibitions such as ‘KYOTOGRAPHIE’ (2015) and one in New York makes him one of the young photographers on the rise. Yamatani spent his early years wandering around Japan in various underground communities he found. His last destination was Osaka where he published ‘Tsugi no yoru e’ featuring his transient days. It became his powerful debut work and internationally gained him high reputation. Simultaneously, he has published his ‘ground’ series, which are made by marks of alcohol and shoe prints on photographs laid out on the floors of live houses and clubs. Not only does he take street snaps but challenges the method and the process of photography. His exploration in creative practice can also be seen in his project ‘Gallery Yamatani’, in which he showed his polaroid series ‘Use before’.

The second solo exhibition at YUKA TSURUNO gallery will show works Yamatani shot whilst on his honeymoon across Japan with his wife Emi. In the summer of 2014, the newlywed packed tent and clothes and departed for their one-month trip from Hokkaido to Kyushu. Yamatani quotes, ‘I wanted to show my wife everything I have seen in my life, first.’ The title of the exhibition is from the 50’s witty rock ‘n’ roll music ‘RAMA LAMA DING DONG.’

On November 21st, a reception will be held with an artist talk and also book signing of the limited monographs by Yamatani.
