After studying at Tokyo University of the Art, Miki Funaki has studied sculpture at Slade School of Fine Art in London in 1998, and mainly worked on installation and film. In 2002, she got a prize from Philip Morris Art Award, has participated in many group shows and projects. Her film created in 2005 has been used for British Rock band, COLDPLAY's world tour.
This is her first solo show in Japan, featuring paintings. When she put images that fade on canvas, is it imagery or a fragment from memory in experience? Or is it the image of something which is not one of them? To Funaki, the important thing is that how the 'feeling' of the image can be depicted, wherever the image was from.
