Portfolio 2013
by Island
Location: Island
Artist(s): Kanako HAYASHI
Date: 11 May - 26 May 2013

I gather historical traces and fragments of memory in urban space where diverse people come and go, and attempt to make these invisible things visible by means of actions and setups. In one of my previous site-specific works, I intervened physically into the gaps and cracks of walls and streets, so that the memories of joy and sorrow, which are associated with these places, and a new time and place can be mediated. The distorted trace makes me imagine many things. The visible trace tells us what has happened here in the past. The memories will stay in people’s minds, even if the trace itself disappears. With my works, I want to mediate between the memories and the imaginary world, and people who live in a different place and time.
