BUNKYO ART was established in 1982, in Yushima, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. In 1988, we opened our project gallery in Ginza, and in 2000 moved to Yaesu in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. FUMA Contemporary Tokyo featured contemporary art was established in 2010 when we also moved to our current location in Hacchobori in Chuo Ward. While concentrating on exhibitions which encourage the reevaluation of post-war art, we also actively organize exhibitions for young, emerging artists. We have auctioned works at Christie’s and Sotheby’s by established Japanese artists such as Kusama Yayoi, Key Hiraga, Yoshitomo Nara, and regularly takes part in major art fairs such as Art Taipei, Shanghai Art Fair, Korean International Art Fair, Art Fair Tokyo, and Tokyo Contemporary Art Fair. The galleries have a worldwide client list (USA, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan etc), and have collaborated with over 20 national museums, including The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and The National Museum of Art, Osaka. Based on many years of practical experience in gallery management, we offer this motto as an expression of the sustainable mission that connects our past, present, and future: FUMA Contemporary Tokyo | BUNKYO ART, advanced galleries.
