Tobin Ohashi Gallery is pleased to present Kit Nagamura and Joji Shimamoto: Tokyo Stories, an exhibition of recent works by the two Tokyo-based photographers.

Drawing on their exploration of hidden and well-known locations in Tokyo, Kit and Joji provide us with views of Tokyo that only insiders can provide. They find images and patterns that we have never seen in this way before.  In the words of Gallery Co-Director, Hitoshi Ohashi, "their works have a texture, a taste, and a smell. These works engage all of our senses."

This is Tobin Ohashi Gallery's first show with Kit Nagamura who is well known for her long running column, Back Street Stories, in the Japan Times. She holds a B.A. with Honors, from Brown University where she completed a dual major in English and Art, by taking classes both at Brown and Rhode Island School of Design.

Kit's works conveys "mono no aware", or the deep resonance in human hearts for things transient, whether decaying buildings, a butterfly's tongue, or leaves iced in layers on an old pond.

Joji Shimamoto has had two prior shows at Tobin Ohashi Gallery and is well known for documenting the often unseen parts of Tokyo, open to those in the skateboard culture.  His works in this show will highlight the architecture and nightlife of Tokyo as well as nostalgic images of objects and buildings which were once so common here.

Joji was born in Japan and went to art school in California.  He has had shows in New York, San Francisco, Hong Kong and throughout Japan. He has had assignments worldwide for Adidas, Volcom and numerous clothing and streetwear companies. His books of photographs are available at Tower Records.
