Date: 16 Jan - 7 Feb 2010
Starting from the spring of 2008, the modern Korean artist, Kwon Kisoo has become one of the must-bit artists in every Modern Asia auction. There were almost thirty pieces passed the crucible of the market in every spring and fall. What is more, under the movements from the speculators who are eager for quick profits, even the works of the year appear astonishingly in the very market. That really disturbs the normal market order of the auctioneers and the galleries. Although the rise and fall of the art market is truly like the cycle of the tide which has its own schedule, the over-emphasized business operation involved in the pieces of works is more like the destruction of the substance rather than confidence and affirmation for an young but persistent artist's long life of art. How many young artists on earth are there, like Kwon Kisoo, can stand for the test of "Every beginning is a moment in the history"?
Kwon Kisoo has always been an outsider from these disturbing business behaviors. This young man, which is like an old monk, ignores the noise in the real word and focuses on his own art blueprints to draw his own Utopia and to tell the story that he wants to tell. After the marvelous show in London 2009, in 2010, Kwon Kisoo will continuously spread his brilliant flower and forest to Paris. The show space in Taipei will be decorated as a port to the Utopia so the visitors can pass through the woods, and enter the new Utopia of Kwon Kisoo.
A mysterious mistake became an inerasable myth, as well as the diverse and colorful imaginations on the artist’s canvas. Up to the heaven or down to the nether world, in Kwon Ki-soo’s New Xanadu, The Butterfly Dream are dancing, blossoms are shining, listening to the birds while riding on a horse. The sense of romance is waiting at every moment of future, waiting for the surprising encounter with you.
