AKI Gallery at Art Taipei 2013
by AKI Gallery
Location: Booth D26, Taipei World Trade Center, Taipei, Taiwan
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 8 Nov - 11 Nov 2013

AKI Gallery has devoted to Taiwan contemporary art for many years. With the ambition to bring great Taiwanese art onto the international stage, they have successfully opened a door for local artists. Lo Chan-Peng, who was invited by ESMOA(El Segundo Museum of Art)to exhibit with art masters such as Pablo Picasso and Anselm Kiefer during May 2013, also joined art residency programs in LA and New York.

Lee Chen-Dao gained recognition from Takashi Murakami and was awarded the silver prize in GAISEI 2009 by his classical painting techniques along with bantering themes. His solo exhibition at Hidari Zingaro increased his reputation in Taiwan. His work King’s Game depicts stereotypical Taiwanese people(often derogatory) with noble classical quality. Heroes intentionally uses soft pink colors to present hero character’s perishing weak side, subverting conventional masculinity. And his new collection Cat Fight V, which will be featured in Art Taipei 2013 unusually captures several fighting girls. He says that as a man, “I am more like an observer of social movements on the streets, watching, deriding and aggravating. My personality is more like a hippy, expecting peace to solve the problems in this era.”

Furthermore, Fan Yang-Tsung impresses the audience after creating his Different space series.

Kuo Chih-Hung and Wu Yih-Han, who travelled and studied in Germany started to shine since their first solo exhibition at AKI Gallery. Both of the artists received support from the collectors and the media. Wu employs gypsum as a base, using transparency to make his works more delicate. His paintings reveal a quiet and sacred mood. If the audience get closer to his works, they will sense lots of clues from poses, dresses and accessories. Wu uses these tiny little elements to express the straight feelings toward the characters featured in his works. Kuo uses photographs as his inspirations and sources, making his paintings just like the recreation of photographs; however, the scenes of his works are recreated and reproduced through the artist’s mind and thoughts. His works give a sensation that the camera cannot capture.

Hua Chien-Chiang
will display his new collection Annual Sale, criticizing the trends of modern society.
