Ever thought about taking the Double-blind Trail out of the science laboratory and applying it in art? Eslite Gallery in Taipei will hold such an experimental exhibition in August. Ten anonymous artists will temporarily ditch their signature styles to create something new. Names of the artists will not be revealed until the exhibition approaches its closing. Not only are visitors kept in the dark; even the art agents, collectors and art professionals, they will all be clueless about who are behinds the works.
The intriguing point is, how can visitors appreciate, analyse, understand and judge the art works in a double-blind trial? The exhibition runs from 7th to 29th August, and the artists' names will be revealed on the 27th August. Curator Chin Ya-Chun explained that the idea came from her expectations of artists and their works. She noticed that as an artist becomes famous, the burdens also come along with fame. We should take time to reflect on how an artist can recapture the drive to strive for only his/her dreams and nothing else.
