Think of Pong
by Eslite Gallery
Location: Eslite Gallery
Artist(s): Pong Pong HO
Date: 11 Apr - 3 May 2015

Starting 11 April 2015, ESLITE GALLERY will present "THINK OF PONG—HO Pong Pong Solo Exhibition." On view until 3 May 2015, the exhibition marks ESLITE'S first collaboration with HO Pong Pong, featuring the artist's personal collection of vintage costume jewelry as well as nine original works on paper inspired by it. Ho Pong Pong's works on paper are a combination of vintage costume jewelry and surrealist drawings that reveal the artist's fascination of the human body and thoughts on life, relationships, personal development. Drawing with her signature fine lines, Ho incorporates jewelry pieces as an important element in her work but also retains their ornamental function for use as a brooch. Alongside these works, Ho will present her brooch collections in four themes, heart, face, lion and tree, and jewelry pieces from 12 famous brands including Boucher, Coro, Monet to provide an overview of the golden era of costume jewelry.

Costume jewelry has been a part of fashion history for hundreds of years, but it was not until the mid-20th century when various designers, including Coco Chanel, launched it as an accessory line to complement their apparels that it became widely popular amongst all classes of American women for its affordability and trendiness. Ho began collecting costume jewelry while studying in London and has since accumulated a great number of pieces from Trifari, Robert, Monet, etc. In 2008, she obtained a jewelry appraisal certificate from Gemological Institute International, and in 2012 she began creating works on paper incorporating her collection.
