In the solo exhibition “Another Day”, JENG Jundian presents a series of figurative paintings instead of his signature “colored line” works. In the new paintings, the rocks bask under the warm midday sun in the glistening seawater. The tranquil images are rich with textures and their colors light and elegant. Whether it is colored lines or representational, JENG endeavors to employ different methods to express different subjects. While the colored lines are constructions and dissipations of memory at the same time, the representational is the solidification of time in a single moment. Together they allow JENG to explore a more complex yet complete system of aesthetics. Like the title of the exhibition “Another Day”, these new paintings lead us to another chapter of JENG’s oeuvre. We take a departure from our routines in order to enjoy a moment of bliss.
