ESLITE GALLERY is pleased to present Wang Yuping’s Solo Exhibition in 2014 Art Beijing, showing the artist’s paintings which transform the ups and downs of the bumpy life into serene scenes. The exhibition consists of Wang’s large scale oil portraits of different people on canvas, landscapes full of flavor of the everyday life, and sentimental water colors depicting ordinary objects. Most of the pieces on show are recent works.
Born and raised in Beijing, Wang Yuping feels great affections for the historical city he grew up in. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing in 1989 and teaches at the department ever since. Lately Wang focuses on painting from life, with subjects ranging from people, the scenes of old Beijing, to trivial objects such as books, pottery, souvenirs, and pencil cases. In this sincere practice without aiming at any grand subject of debate and which is diverted from main trends in contemporary art, he found once again the pleasure of painting.
To paint from life, Wang typically blends acrylic, oil pastel, oil paint on handcrafted paper, allowing the color patches to maintain their loose and random feature. With saturated and pure color, he brings forward the intimate, calm, warm yet sentimental nature of ordinary people and objects. Wang’s works are the traces of his quest for genuineness in art.
