Founded in 1997, Hwas Gallery is among the earliest commercial galleries to open in China and is dedicated to promoting Chinese contemporary art and artists to a wider audience. We support a select programme of emerging young artists as well established artist. The gallery serves both the corporate and private collecting sector as we endeavour to draw in and include those who are new to the contemporary art scene, as well as knowledgeable collectors.

In 2008, Hwas Gallery was voted among the top 5 galleries in Shanghai, and among the top 20 galleries in China by an independent panel in the well-respected Hi-Art magazine. Judged by the quality of exhibition planning, publications, media advertisements, participation in art fairs, academic contributions, marketing, general administration and innovation, this distinction is a testament to the scope and vision of Hwas Gallery. Having recently moved to a newly-renovated 3-storey space in the affluent neighborhood of Hongqiao in Shanghai, the space, at over 1,000 square meters, provides a luxurious space for exhibitions and also private parties and receptions. Both domestically and abroad, Hwas Gallery continues to make its mark on the contemporary Chinese art world.
