Hearing Colors, Tasting Shapes
by Aike-Dellarco
Location: Aike-Dellarco Shanghai
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 6 Sep - 10 Oct 2015

AIKE-DELLARCO is pleased to announce the exhibition “Hearing Colors, Tasting Shapes”, featuring works by Tang Dixin (China), Giuseppe Gabellone (Italy), Diego Perrone (Italy), Jurgen Ots (Belgium), Lee Kit (Hong Kong), and Neïl Beloufa (France).

The exhibition gathers together a group of artists who, regardless of their geographical distance and contextual diversity, are engaged in redefining the identity of their art practice by contaminating between different mediums like painting, sculptures, video and performance.

“Hearing Colors, Tasting Shapes” playfully refers to the phenomenon of synesthesia, a physical condition that allows those affected by it to experience the ordinary world in extraordinary ways.

This exhibition borrows the notion of synesthesia as a metaphor of any creative effort that embraces the possibility of cross-connections between unrelated conceptual realms, re-elaborates the ordinary through extraordinary connections, and in doing so, offers novel point of views.

Giuseppe Gabellone (1973) was born in Brindisi, Italy. He has participated in Venice Biennale twice (2003 and 1997), VII Biennale de Lyon (2003) and Documenta 11 (2002). He has also shown in group exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France (2013); Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, USA (2009); and Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2001).

His work has been included in the permanent collection in Centre Pompidou, Paris, France.

Diego Perrone (1970) was born in Asti, Italy. He has participated in Venice Biennale twice (2003 and 2013), Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art (2006) and Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2005). His works were also selected to exhibit at New Museum, New York, USA (2008), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA (2007), and at Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2004).

Jurgen Ots (1978) was born in Belgium. He had participated in group shows held in Reykjavik National Museum (2013) and Musée d'Ixelles in Brussels (2012). He has also participated in the First Brussels Biennial, Brussels, Belgium (2008).

Lee Kit (1978) was born in Hong Kong, China. He has participated at Sharjah Biennial (2015); Kiev Biennial (2014), has been selected to represent Hong Kong at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013), and is one of the seven artists shortlisted for the inaugural Hugo Boss Asia Art Award (2013).
