Aspiranti Aspiratori
by Aike-Dellarco
Location: Aike Dellarco
Artist(s): Sissi
Date: 8 Jul - 15 Aug 2013

At the Aike-Dellarco gallery in Shanghai, Elica and Fondazione Ermanno Casoli present Aspiranti Aspiratori, a solo show of works by the Italian artist Sissi, acknowledged as one of the most interesting and original artists of the new generation. The exhibition curated by Marcello Smarrelli, will display the outcome of a one-year project the artist realized in collaboration with Elica. The project has been presented in 2012 at the Elica AirFactory in Milan, during the 51st edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile design week, and at the MAMbo (Museum of Modern Art, Bologna). The Aspiranti Aspiratori project was also selected in 2012 by the ADI (Industrial Design Association) Design Index in the “Corporate Research” thematic area.

Over the course of one year Sissi produced drawings, collages, sculptures and reflections that outlined the map of her own creative process, translating her ideas in ten Aspiranti Aspiratori, ten potential objects for air purification, each one with a well-defined identity and a name indicating its key concept, reflected in its formand function. The Aike-Dellarco gallery will showcase three of the ten Aspiranti Aspiratori, an animated video called Casting on the genesis and the evolution of all the Aspiranti Aspiratori, and a wide selection of drawings Sissi made during the designing and realization phases (until 15 August 2013, free entrance). The viewer will be immersed in a narrative itinerary blending art, myth, science and technology, and after having explored the exhibition the viewers will be asked to vote their favourite Aspirante Aspiratore. The one with the most votes will be put through an industrial process to become a real air purifier.

Based on the successful experiences carried out in Italy and Poland, the exhibition Aspiranti Aspiratori will be the first of a series of projects that Fondazione Ermanno Casoli sets out to promote in China, with Elica’s close collaboration. To meet this purpose, a dialogue based on training and art and corporate relations has been set forth with the young but already well-established Chinese artist Zhang Ding. After this stop in China, this exhibition will continue its international “tour” travelling to New York, testifying the international growing interest for projects focused on the union of art and business.
