Kum Chi Keung solo exhibition
by Leo Gallery
Location: Leo Gallery
Artist(s): KUM Chi Keung
Date: 11 Dec 2011 - 26 Feb 2012

Leo Gallery proudly presents Unfinished, a solo exhibition for Kum Chi Keung, one of Hong Kong’s most prolific contemporary sculptors. Kum articulates the dynamics of the urban lifestyle through elegant interpretations of the common birdcage. Leo Gallery introduced his work in Shanghai during 2009’s Small Is Beautiful show and since then, his work has been memorably exhibited at Times Square Shanghai and the Shanghai World Financial Center. Please join us on Sunday, December 11th from 4:30 to 7pm to celebrate the artist’s first solo exhibit in Mainland China. Artist will be in attendance.

Garden of Eden, an exhibition concept created especially for Shanghai, is a display of the artist’s Fruit series. Kum Chi Keung explores the similarity between the artistic and scientific processes of examining the world around us. Just as genetic-modification alters the fruit from within, art affects us in a way that is not obvious from outward appearances.

About the Artist

Kum Chi Keung has created a large number of site-specific installations for numerous public spaces in Hong Kong including the city’s MTR stations and Star Ferry, Hong Kong Public Library, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Victoria Park, and Sheung Wan Cultural & Civic Centre. He has been commissioned by Beijing boutique hotel Opposite House as well as Deutsche Bank, K11 Mall and the East Hotel in Hong Kong. In addition, Kum was invited to participate in Inside Out : New Chinese Art, the seminal contemporary Chinese art exhibition organized by the Asia Society, and the 11th Biennale of Sydney International Contemporary Art.

From 2005 to 2007, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council enlisted Kum Chi Keung’s help as a highly recognized figure in the contemporary art scene to design souvenirs. The Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and the Shanghai Art Museum have included Kum Chi Keung’s work in their permanent collections.
