In 2013, the Kyoto City University of Arts implemented a project sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, “Diversified workshops by invites lecturers (artists) for the cultivation of up-and-coming artists”.[*]A total of four lecturers were invited this year, and three workshops held. The result of one, “The Hundred Steps”, will be held at the Kyoto City University of arts. Art Gallery @KCUA.
The Hundred Steps was a painting workshop with invited artist Ellen Altfest from New York. Seven artists were selected from public applications, and a training-camp style workshop was held from June to July at the Ashiu Research Grounds, a forest center in Miyamacho in Kyoto Prefecture. Over the next six months guidance and critique continues with Alyfest via correspondence. The participants were able to acquire fresh clues to their artwork creation and discover their own themes through intense communication with the lecturer.
In addition to the work produced by the participant artists, in this exhibition a special exhibition of Altfest’s representative works will be held. In these works visitors will notice important elements of the artists sincere, trend-rebutting attitudes towards their work. Please join us in this opportunity to see their work.
