Shen Gui (also known as Shen Beiyan) was born in 1941 in Chongqing City, China. In 1967 he graduated from the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1973 he became a member of the Artists Group under the Political Department of the Lanzhou Military Region and later on he taught art at the Beijing Film Academy. In 1989 he settled in France to study arts. Since he returned to China in 2006, Shen Gui formed an art studio titled “Lifting Field”. He has also published individual monographs and books in cooperation with friends.
His paintings have been shown in the national art exhibitions and awarded several prizes. Some of his works are in the collection of the National Art Museum of China. During his stay in France he participated in various art exhibitions including the National Saloon, the Saloon of Comparison, the Saloon of Autumn and the May Salon. After his return to China he held solo show in the National Art Museum of China. He also holds his solo shows each year at Beijing 9 Art Space in 798 Art Zone.
