'whiteonwhite:algorithmicnoir' + other works

Leeahn Gallery is pleased to the first solo exhibition in Korea of Eve Sussman, who has announced artworks of various genre including film, video, installation and photograph. The video artist getting the greatest attention after Bill Viola, Eve Sussman has collaborated with Rufus corporation, the cooperation management team with performance, music, dance and the artists, and they worked on 89 Seconds at Alcazar(2004) and The Rape of the Sabine Women(2007) together. 

Holding the exhibitions at the museums in the world, Sussman creates the video artworks with an elaborate space configuration and exceptional image beauty. She has been introduced her representing work '89 Seconds at Alcazar'(2004) in the exhibition 'MISE-EN-SCENE' at Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art in Korea. 

At Leeahn Gallery, her recent work whiteonwhite: algorithmicnoir(2009-2011) will be announced. whiteonwhite: algorithmicnoir(2009-2011) worked with Rufus Corporation and simon Lee used special software program, and it consists of about 80 voices, 150 songs and 3000 images taken in Russia, Kazakhstan and Dubai. This is the self-generating work, which plays and edits image and audio randomly from tagged digital contents based on algorithm so that it never plays the same picture, and cannot define a start and an end of artwork. 

Covering master pieces in Western art, such as The Maids of Honour by Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, 'Whiteonwhite:algorithmicnoir' starts from Kazimir Malevich's 'white on white'(1918), and develops Mr. Holtz's mysterious story traversing the Soviet Union in Central Asia. Also, 'Yuri's Office'; based on the office of Yuri Gagarin, the first astronaut, explores failed utopia of Russian avant-garde, competition between the United States and Russia in space exploration, and the relationship with spatial attention. Whiteonwhite:algorithmicnoir is the third project work with Rufus corporation, and it was submitted to Sundance Film Festival-New Frontier Feature and Berlin International Film Festival in 2012 as well as announced in Walker Art Center, Bass Museum of Art in Miami, and Mondtreal Museum of Contemporary Art in 2012. 

Eve Sussman lives and works in Brooklyn. Her works are housed in Museum of Modern Art, New York, Deutsch Bank, Whitney Museum of American Art and National Gallery in London, and were invited to major biennales including 5th Istanbul Biennale and Whitney Biennale in 2004.
